Pest Control in Fort Pierce

Fort Pierce at a glance

Fort Pierce is the county seat of St. Lucie County, with 47,297 people (2020), on the Indian River Lagoon north of Port St. Lucie. It's known as the Sunrise City.

What that means for pests

Fort Pierce has many older homes, some with wood framing and raised floors that termites have had decades to find. Drywood termite pellets and subterranean mud tubes are both common finds; see termite treatment. Homes near the Indian River Lagoon and downtown waterfront see more moisture, which suits roaches and termites, while older neighborhoods have more gaps for rodents.

Older neighborhoods

Older homes have more gaps at rooflines and utility openings, which let roof rats and roaches inside. Raised wood floors and older crawl spaces give subterranean termites a hidden path into the house.

An old army post

The city is named for the Fort Pierce army post built nearby in 1838 during the Second Seminole War and used until 1842. It was named for Benjamin Kendrick Pierce, an Army officer and brother of President Franklin Pierce. Permanent settlement began in the 1860s, the city incorporated in 1901, and the writer Zora Neale Hurston lived in its Lincoln Park neighborhood. Homes from many of those eras still stand, and older houses benefit from a yearly termite inspection; see subterranean and drywood termites.
